Acts that are both criminal and deviant

• most acts that get classified as crimes would be regarded as deviant.
• not all acts that are classified as crimes are particularly serious and society is often divided on whether a particular crime is actually deviant.
• there are acts that some people see as deviant but are not crimes. this often arises when social attitudes are changing. attitudes may begin to change when behaviour that was once both illegal and seen as deviant by almost everyone becomes acceptable. this can lead to a change in the law, however, others may continue to see this behaviour as deviant.
