  • Resistance to social influence refers to the ability of people to withstand the social pressure to conform to the majority or obey authority.
  • Social support is an explanation for resistance where the presence of others who are resisting conformity or obedience can make it easier for someone to do the same. I creates a counter norm that helps people resist.
  • Locus of control is an explanation for resistance that is a personality attribute that measures a person's ability to feel in control of their own behavior. Someone with high internal LOC believes they are primarily responsible for their behavior and are more likely to resist social influence.
