    Cards (85)

    • INVESTIGATING ADDING RESISTORS IN SERIES:
      • have at least four identical resistors
      • make a circuit with one resistor, a battery (with it’s pd recorded) and an ammeter
      • measure the current and then calculate the resistance with the pre-recorded pd.
      • add another resistor and repeat this step until all four have been added.
      • PLOT A GRAPH (should find increasing resistance, decreases current)
    • INVESTIGATE RESISTORS IN PARALLEL:
      • add ammeter, resistor, battery, into a circuit
      • Measure current in circuit with ammeter, and calculate the total resistance with pd of battery.
      • Then add the next resistor in parallel to first, and repeat step 3 until all have been added.
      • PLOT A GRAPH: should show the total current increases, while the total resistance decreases.
      • more resistors added, the smaller overall resistance is.
    • What are the first steps to “the extension of a spring” practical?
      • set up a clamp stand with a clamp hang the spring from the clamp
use a second clamp and boss to fix a (half) metre ruler alongside the spring
    • What should you do after you fix a metre ruler alongside the spring?
record the metre ruler reading that is level with the bottom of the spring
      • hang a 2 N weight from the bottom of the spring
      • record the new position of the bottom of the spring
    • What are the final steps of the extension of a spring experiment?
      • calculate the extension of the spring
      • measure the extension of the spring
      • add further weights to the spring so the force increases 2 N at a time up to 10 N
      • for each new force record the position of the bottom of the spring and calculate / measure the extension
