Holmes and Rahe developed a questionnaire called the Social Readjustment Rating Scale to rate and measure total stress scores
the SRRS identifies 43 life events each with a different score. They asked individuals to score what they had experienced affected their stress levels
they discovered the higher the score the more likely an individual was to become unwell
critics argue that each individual is unique and deals with stress in different ways. Major life events are not experienced frequently but people still may experience stress from daily hassles
