• All materials in the living world are recycled to provide the building blocks for future organisms
• Water cycle

  • Water evaporates from the sea and plants transpire
  • Water vapour rises then cools and condenses to form clouds
  • The clouds precipitate
  • Water is collects in seas and plants
• The carbon cycle returns carbon from organisms to the atmosphere as carbon dioxide to be used by plants in photosynthesis
• When plants, animals and decomposers respire CO$_2$ is released in the air
