• lexis- the choice of words in a text, including the words used to express ideas and feelings (vocab)
• syntax- the way in which words are combined to form sentences and clauses

• graphology- the look of a text, the way it is written, the way it is organized
• semantics- the study of the meaning of words and the relationship between words and their meanings in a text

• period- when a text was written, published, or performed, or when it was first performed
• function- what the text is trying to achieve, what the author wants to say, what the author wants the reader to do
• style- the way in which a writer uses language to convey meaning and create effect (content)
