  • Synthesis is the process of combining two or more compounds/elements to form one product. (A + B -> AB)
  • Decomposition is the process of breaking down a compound into smaller compounds/elements. (AB -> A + B)
  • Single Displacement (SD) occurs when a compound and element reacts to substitute another element for the original element forming a new compound. (Either Cations or Anions Swap). (A + BC -> AC + B)
  • Double Displacement occurs when two compounds react to form two new compounds by swapping the cations and anions of the reactants. (AB + CD -> AD + CB)
  • Combustion is a type of reaction that ALWAYS has oxygen and a hydrocarbon reacting to ALWAYS create carbon dioxide and water.
  • Neutralization is a type of reaction where an acid (H+) and base (OH-) react always forming water and a salt.
