heart transplant

• if a patient has heart failure a heart transplant may be possible, however if this is not available then a artificial heart may be fitted
• artificial hearts are medical devices that replace the heart and pump blood around the body as a temporary fix
• one advantage is they are less likely to be rejected by the body as they are not foreign to the body as they are metal/plastic
• one disadvantage is that surgery may cause infection and bleeding. they also don't work as well as natural hearts and the heart could wear out and blood dosen't flow as well - lead to blood clots
