Structure and functions of Nervous systems

Cards (20)

  • Nervous Sytem
Connects body parts and transmit signals from one part to
    another.
It is a system of cells, tissues, organs that regulates the
body’s responses to internal and external stimuli.
  • CNS- serves as the main
    processing center for the
    entire nervous system.
  • Brain- Organ located
    within the skull that
    functions are organizer
    and distributor of
    information for the body.
  • Frontal Lobe
    Personality, planning problem solving
Speech: speaking and writing (brocas area)
    Body movement (motor strip)
    Intelligence, concentration, self awareness
  • Parietal lobe
    interprets languange, words
sense of touch, pain temperature (seneory strip)
Interprets signals from vision, hearing motor, sensory and memory
    Spacial and visual perception
  • Occipital lobe
    Interprets vision (color, light, movement)
  • Temporal lobe
    Understanding language (Werneck’s area)
    memory
    hearing
    sequencing and organization
  • Cerebrum-
    large located on the upper
    part
    controls activity and
    thought.
  • Cerebellum-
    located on the under
    cerebrum
    controls posture, balance and
    coordination.
  • Brain stem-
    connects brain to the spinal
    cord
    controls automatic functions
    such as breathing, digestion,
    heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Spinal cord- serves as a
    channel of signals between
the brain and the rest of the
    body.
    Controls simple
    musculoskeletal reflexes
    without input of the brain.
  • PNS- connects CNS to the
    organs and limbs.
  • Somatic nervous system- this
    system is associated with the
    voluntary control of body
    movements
  • Spinal cord
    the nervous carry motor and
    sensory signal between the spinal
    cord and the body.
  • Cranial nervs
the nerve fibers that carry information
into and out of the brain stem.
  • Autonomic nerves system- the
    system associated with the
    involuntary control of body
    movements.
  • 2 main parts of autonomic nervous
    system
    1. sympathetic- activated in
    dynamamic role or stress.
    (increases heart rate and breathing,
    dilation of pupil, sweating)
  • Parasympathetic- maintains body
functions and restores the body to
    normal or relaxed.
  • Nerve cell is the basic unit of
    nervous system.
  • neurons- cell body containing
    nucleus.
