• malaria is caused by a protist - a protist that is transmitted by mosquitos which are vectors as they pick up the malaria protist when they feed on infected animals
• when the mosquitos feeds on other animals it it infects them by inserting the protist into the animals blood vessels
• malaria causes repeating episodes of fever and can be fatal if not treated
• people can be protected by mosquito nets and anti-malarial drugs
