Sexual Reproduction

• Two parents contribute genetic material to create offspring which usually involves the fusion of specialized cells called gametes
• In animals, these gametes are sperm and eggs
• In plants, these gametes are pollen and ovules
• SR leads to genetic diversity and evolution of species, which is important for survival
• Genetic diversity allows for the mixing and recombination to genetic traits
• SR requires the time ang energy to find a mate and engage in courtship behaviors
• SR can be a slower and less efficient compared to asexual reproduction in terms of population growth
