  • What is meant by the term oxygen debt?
    The amount of extra oxygen the body needs after exercise to react with the accumulated lactic acid and remove it from the cells.
  • Why does breathing increase during exercise?
    To get more oxygen into the blood.
  • Why does heart rate increase during exercise?
    To pump oxygenated blood faster.
  • When does anaerobic respiration take place in muscles?
    During intense exercise or when there is insufficient oxygen supply.

    Muscles become fatigued and stop contracting efficiently.

    The liver to be converted back into glucose.

  • What is there an increased demand for during exercise?
    Energy.

    The incomplete oxidation of glucose.
