• Yalta conference took place in February 1945
• The big 3 at the Yalta conference were Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill
• At Yalta conference, it was decided that Germany would be divided into 4 zones after the war is won. The 4 zones are British, American, Soviet and French
• The Potsdam conference took place from July-August 1945
• The big 3 at the Potsdam conference were Joseph Stalin, Harry Truman and Clement Attlee
• 12 April 1945 - President Roosevelt died and Harry S Truman took over presidency
• 16th July 1945 - Americans successfully tested a drop of the atomic bomb
• 3 main disagreements at Potsdam:

  Disagreed over Germany

  Disagreed over reparations

  Disagreed over Soviet policy in Europe
• 1917 - Russian revolution turns Russia communist, The Soviet Union is created
• Oct 1944 - Percentages agreement is drawn up on a napkin between Churchill and Stalin
• May 1945 - Victory in Europe
• 6th August 1945 -Little Boy is dropped on Hiroshima, Japan
• 9th August 1945 - Fatman dropped on Nagasaki, Japan
• 22nd February 1946 - the long telegram is sent
• 5th March 1946 - Chruchill delivers 'Iron curtain speech'
• 1947 - the Truman doctrine is created
• 1947 - Stalin's cominform is created
• 1948 - US create marshall plan
• 24th June 1948 - Berlin Blockade starts
• 5-8th January 1949 - Stalin created comecon
• 4th April 1949 - NATO is formed
• August 1949 - USSR develop their own atomic bomb
• 30th September 1949 - Berlin airlift ends after 15 months
• 1949 - China becomes communist under Mao's rule
• February 1950 - Chinese and Soviet governments agree to treaty of friendship
• June 1950 - July 1953 - The Korean war
• November 1952 - USA detonate their first hydrogen bomb
• 5th March 1953 - Joseph Stalin dies and is replaced by Nikita Khrushchev
• May 1955 - Warsaw pact created, Soviet equivalent to NATO
• Nov 1955 - April 1975 - the Vietnam war
• October 1956 - Hungarian uprising against USSR
• October 1957 - Sputnik satellite launched by USSR
• January 1959 - end of Cuban revolution - Fidel Castro becomes the leader
• May 1960 - US spy plane incident ruins Paris peace summit
• 17th-20th April 1961 - Bay of pigs invasion
• June 1961 - Vienna summit held between JFK and Khrushchev
• 13th August 1961 - creation of the Berlin wall
• October 1962 - Cuban missile crisis
• 22nd November 1963 - JFK is assassinated and Lyndon B Johnson takes over presidency
• October 1964 - Khrushchev is replaced as leader of USSR by Leonid Brezhnev
