  • Yalta conference took place in February 1945
  • The big 3 at the Yalta conference were Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt and Winston Churchill
  • At Yalta conference, it was decided that Germany would be divided into 4 zones after the war is won. The 4 zones are British, American, Soviet and French
  • The Potsdam conference took place from July-August 1945
  • The big 3 at the Potsdam conference were Joseph Stalin, Harry Truman and Clement Attlee
  • 12 April 1945 - President Roosevelt died and Harry S Truman took over presidency
  • 16th July 1945 - Americans successfully tested a drop of the atomic bomb
  • 3 main disagreements at Potsdam:

    Disagreed over Soviet policy in Europe
  • 1917 - Russian revolution turns Russia communist, The Soviet Union is created
  • Oct 1944 - Percentages agreement is drawn up on a napkin between Churchill and Stalin

  • 6th August 1945 -Little Boy is dropped on Hiroshima, Japan
  • 9th August 1945 - Fatman dropped on Nagasaki, Japan

  • 5th March 1953 - Joseph Stalin dies and is replaced by Nikita Khrushchev
  • May 1955 - Warsaw pact created, Soviet equivalent to NATO

  • October 1957 - Sputnik satellite launched by USSR

  • June 1961 - Vienna summit held between JFK and Khrushchev

  • 22nd November 1963 - JFK is assassinated and Lyndon B Johnson takes over presidency
  • October 1964 - Khrushchev is replaced as leader of USSR by Leonid Brezhnev
