Recycling

Cards (5)

  • How are raw materials obtained?
By quarrying or mining which are very harmful to the environment for example, quarrying produces large amounts of dust and destroys habitats and mining can release harmful chemicals into the environment. It also takes a lot of energy (which comes from limited resources) to turn the raw materials into useful products.
  • Why is it important that we reuse and recycle?
Helps to save limited resources and energy and reduce waste.
  • what are some products recycled for?
For a different use for example plastic bottles which can be recycled to make carpets.
  • How do we recycle metals?
We melt them and then recast them into different products.
  • what is a problem with recycling metals?
Different metals need to be separated before being recycled, this depends on the properties of the final product for example scrap steel can be added to iron from a blast furnace which reduces the amount of iron needed to be extracted from iron ore.
