• At the earths liquid core, Primary (P) waves are refracted creating a P wave shadow zone
• Earthquakes are caused when rock underground suddenly breaks along a fault (PHYSICS)
• Secondary (S) waves cannot travel through liquids but only solids
• Surface waves travel along the tectonic plates and don't penetrate the mantle
• The earths liquid core stops secondary (S) waves creating an S wave shadow zone
• Secondary (S) waves are transverse waves
• Primary (P) waves are the fastest types of waves and always arrive first
• Primary (P) waves travel faster in solids than liquids
• Primary (P) waves are longitudinal waves
• Secondary (S) waves arrive after Primary (P) waves and before surface waves
• Surface waves always arrive last
