  • Anthony Flew - RE depends on context of those who have them. Dont hear of a christian seeing mohammed or a muslim seeing jesus. RE depends on prior assumptions of those involved.
  • Flew: Re depends on prior belifs of those involved, Implies RE is a basis faith, more likely to be generated by existing faith commitments. Therefore they do not prove faith as accurate.
  • Peter Vardy, the vicious circle challenge: which religion does RE prove. Most religions make claims that contrast each other, and we can easily accept that not all religions are true. Re is a thing in all religons (st teresa and muhammad received quran).
  • Vardy: religions make claims that contrast each other, if one religion relies on RE to prove the truth of their religion, each religion can claim the same and this provides "a complete triumph for the sceptic" (hume) as it implies each religion is equally true.
  • Vardy critic: it can be held that there is a single transcendant reality that each religion experiances differently. For this to hold the grounds for this need to be established.
  • MAIN QUESTION FOR DEBATE: IS IT MIND OR GOD?
