  • Blood is a tissue consisting of plasma, in which are suspended: • red blood cells • white blood cells • platelets
  • Plasma is the liquid part of blood that carries dissolved substances such as nutrients, gases, hormones, waste products and antibodies.
  • White blood cells (leucocytes) have different functions including fighting infection by engulfing bacteria or viruses.
  • Red blood cells (erythrocytes) contain haemoglobin, which binds to oxygen molecules. They transport oxygen from the lungs to all parts of the body.
