  • observe only one responding variable (dependent)

• The eight characteristics of all living things

  1. made up of cells (uni/multi) = basic unit of life
  2. can reproduce either sexually or asexually
  3. based off universal genetic code (RNA & DNA)
  4. can grow and develop
  5. can obtain and use materials & energy
  6. responds to environment
  7. maintains a stable internal environment (homeostasis)
  8. evolves over time as a group
• The organization of life

  • molecules: DNA, carbohydrates, proteins, fats
  • cells: the smallest unit of life
  • group of cells: tissues, organs, systems
  • organism: an individual living thing
  • population: a group of similar organisms
  • community: several populations in an area
  • ecosystem: communities + their nonliving surroundings
  • biosphere: the part of the earth that contains all ecosystems and life
