The Moon

• As the moon orbits the earth it appears to change shape
• The moon is the earths only natural satellite
• The moon is not luminous but it reflects sunlight
• The moon takes 27.5 days to orbit the earth and spin on its axis
• Because the earth changes shape while orbiting the sun we only ever see one face of the moon
• The moon and the earth are in synchronous rotation. This means they both turn at the same time
• A blue moon is the second full moon in a month and happens a few times a year
