Gas exchange in leaves

• Epidermal tissue: covers the surface of the leaf and protects it
• Palisade mesophyll: contains chloroplasts for photosynthesis
• Spongy mesophyll: air spaces so gases can come into contact with the mesophyll cells
• Vascular bundle: contains xylem and phloem
• Stomata: open and close to control water loss and has exchange. Protected by guard cells
