Plant Organs

• Roots anchor plants and absorb water, minerals, and nutrients from the soil.
• Roots consists of vascular cylinder (transportation of nutrients), apical meristem (growth of plant), root hairs (increases absorption and surface area), and root caps (protection of apical meristem by releasing mucilage and detection of gravity)
• Tap roots are dicots and they are for absorption.
• Fibrous roots are monocots and are for anchorage
• Adventitious roots are from shoot systems.
