  • A microprocessor is a single integrated circuit(chip) that performs the functions of a CPU
  • The main memory is used to store all the data and instructions currently being used.
  • The main memory is also known as internal memory, primary memory or immediate access store (IAS)
  • RAM(random access memory)is attached to the motherboard. It stores data and applications while they are being used. It only stores them while the computer is on put when it is turned off everything in the RAM is lost. It is volatile
  • ROM(Read-only memory) This has data preinstalled onto it that cannot be removed. It keeps its contents when the computer is turned off. It is non-volatile.
  • ROM start up instructions.
  • Ram: programs and data being used at the moment.
  • The main memory is volatile.
  • Normally a computer RAM is much bigger than its ROM.
  • The ROM is bigger in some computer systems such as microprocessor-controlled devices such as washing machines.
  • A storage device is used to store programs and data when the processor is turned off.
  • processor or CPU is who makes complex calculations and logical decisions executes computer programs and sends instructions.
  • Storage devices are sometimes called baking store, secondary storage or external storage; these all mean the same thing.
  • backing store is a secondary storage device for data.
  • External storage device is data storage that is separated from the computer.
  • Secondary storage device is somethimes called external memory is non-volatile memory such as a pen drive
