  • SERVING
    • Putting the ball into play

  • TYPES OF SERVING
    1. Underhand serve

  • UNDERHAND SERVE
    • Hit with the hand below the waist using a low and gentle motion, making it easier to control
  • OVERHAND SERVE
    • Ball is tossed in the air and hit with hand above the head, with more power and speed
  • JUMP SERVE
    • More advanced serve
    • Jumps to hit the ball, more speed and unpredictability
  • PASSING (BUMPING)
    • Using forearms to receive and pass the ball, typically after a serve or attack
  • SETTING
    • Using fingertips to direct the ball, usually for an attack
  • ATTACKING (SPIKING)
    • Jumping and hitting the ball forcefully, typically over the net
  • BLOCKING
    • Jumping and attempting to stop the opponent's attack at the net
  • DIGGING
    • Use their hands to prevent the ball from touching the ground, in response to an attack
  • RECEIVING
    • Passing the ball to the setter after served by the opposing team
    • Goal: Successfully direct the ball to the target player
  • TEAM COMPOSITION
    • Each team consists of 6 players
    • 3 front row
    • 3 back row
  • SCORING
    • Uses rally scoring
    • A point is scored on every serve
    • Played to 25 pts
    • Server has 8 secs to serve after referee signals
  • ROTATION
    • After winning a point, players must rotate clockwise
  • HITS
    • A team is allowed a max. of 3 hits to return the ball to opponent's side
    • No double hits or carrying the ball
  • NET PLAY
    • Cannot touch the net during the play
    • Can hit the ball over or near the net
  • ATTACK LINE
    • Back row players must remain behind the attack line (3 meter line) when attempting an attack
    • Front row players can attack the ball in front of the line
  • FAULTS
    • Player touches the net or crosses the center line
    • Player makes an illegal hit
    • Ball lands out of bounds
    • Ball is served incorrectly
  • TIME-OUTS
    • Allowed to take a max. of 2 timeouts per set, lasting 30 secs
  • SUBSTITUTIONS
    • Can make limited number of sub during match, generally 6 per set

  • FIRST REFEREE
    • Primary official who oversees the entire match

    • Keeps track of the score, serves, rotations, and timeouts
    • Ensure that they follow the proper scoring system
  • LINE JUDGE
    • Typically 2 line judges
    • Monitor the sidelines and endlines
