Pernicious Anaemia

Cards (2)

  • Pernicious anaemia is an autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks cells in the stomach that produce a protein, intrinsic factor. Intrinsic factor binds with vitamin B12, so that it can be absorbed. Without these proteins, a person may develop pernicious anaemia.
  • Pernicious anaemia can be remedied with injections, as well as by increasing the amount of foods in the diet that are rich in vitamin B12, for example, dairy and fish.
