• The esophagus is a muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach.
• The stomach is a muscular organ that churns and mixes food with digestive juices.
• Digestion: the breaking down of food into smaller molecules
• Physical disgestion (teeth) and chemical digestion (enzymes)
• Enzyme: chemical that speeds up a reaction without being used up
• Peristalsis: a wave of muscular contraction
• Hydrochloric acid: helps break up food, kills germs
• Protein digesting enzymes break down proteins
• Gallbladder breaks down fat
• Pancreas produces pancreatic juice which neutralises acidic chyme
• Small intestine absorbs nutrient
• Large intestine absorbs water also stores undigested waste
• Liver produces bile and it’s stored in gallbladder
