  • Smallpox, measles, whopping cough, and flu were major killers of Africans
• Impact on Transport

  • In order for large numbers of enslaved people to move around, transport networks needed to be improved
  • This led to better links between inland Africa and the coast
  • General trading was also made easier
• Impact on Violence and War between Tribes

  • Many tribes become violent with each other;
  • As they wanted to sell prisoners of war to Europeans
  • The Ashanti sold many POW in exchange for European goods
  • European goods like:
  • Rum,
  • Guns
• Impact on Wealth of Africans

  • Some African Kings and Chiefs became very rich by selling slaves to the Europeans
  • They also benefitted from getting by getting manufactured goods from Europe e.g.:
  • Guns,
  • Bullets
• Impact on Food Supplies

  • New resources like pots and pans were brought in, leading to better food and cooking
  • However there was a lack of farmers causing famine
• Impact on the Justice System

  • Very small crimes were punished with slavery
