  • What was the Enabling Act?
    The Enabling Act was a law that allowed the Chancellor to enact laws without the Reichstag's approval. This was a 4 year temporary measure, or for when the Reichstag government was replaced.
  • When was the Enabling Act passed?
    The 23rd of March 1933.
  • How did Hitler get the Enabling Act passed?
    Any opposition for it was eliminated through fear and manipulation tactics; for example, the SA was posted outside of the Reichstag. Additionally, all Communists who arrived to the meeting were turned away. Hitler had also made deals with the Catholic Party (Centre Party) so they would vote for it.
  • How many votes were there for and against the Enabling Act?
    There were 444 votes for and 94 against; all of those 94 were from Social Democrats and the party was then banned 3 months later.
  • When did the laws announced by Hitler come into action?
    The laws Hitler announced would now take place the next day.
  • What did the Enabling Act not affect?
    The Enabling Act did not affect Presidents Rights which meant that Hindenburg was still more powerful than Hitler by this point.
