The
aim
of the experiment was to investigate whether the
proximity
of the
experimenter
had an
influence
on the
obedience levels.
In the experiment, the
experimenter
gave
instructions face to face
with a
teacher
and then left the room to give
instructions
over the
phone.
The results showed that
obedience levels
fell from
65
% to
22.5
% when the maximum shock of
450
volts was given.
Teachers
in the experiment gave
low voltage shocks
and
lied
to the experimenter.
Obedience levels
changed upon the
experimenter's arrival
into the lab.
