plant cells

• the typical plant cell contains:

  cell membrane

  cytoplasm

  nucleus

  ribosome

  cell wall

  chloroplast

  permanent vacuole

  mitochondria
• cell membrane - controls movement in and out of the cell. selectively-permeable.
• cytoplasm - where most of the cell's chemical reactions take place
• nucleus - controls the cell and contains the cell's genetic information (DNA)
• ribosome - where protein synthesis occurs
• cell wall - used to strengthen and support the cell.
• chloroplast - contains chlorophyll, absorbs the light for photosynthesis.
• permanent vacuole - filled with cell sap, helps to support the cell
• plant cells are more regular in shape than animal cells because they have additional structures: cell wall, vacuole, (and in some cases) chloroplasts
• mitochondria - site of aerobic respiration, where most of the energy is released
