    • After each scene- put characters in the Diary Room to say what they are thinking/feeling about the situation/about Grace/about The IT.
  • (IMPROVISATION) Moments not from play:IT!
Helps you get to grips with how characters would act/respond.

Allows to develop understanding of the character futher by walking in their shoes.
  • (IMPROVISATION) moments spoken about in the play:
    • Understand why the characters do stuff and how they react in public compared to how they would react in a gang= more in depth characterisation.
    • Helps image more clearly moments spoken about in the play-which makes them feel more real=You can react more realistically when it is metioned in the play= more in-depth characterisation.

    • Helps actors to get a better understanding of the location of the scene and how that would impact character=more in-depth characterisation.
    • Helps actor to work out how to act the lines that are in the script (add eg with quotes)- because you know what they're thinking so showing physically= more in depth characterisation.
    • Helps actor add depth to the characters' opinions of others so can put into the scene physically/vocally/space.

    • Helps you understand their vunerability- so understand their motivation; put in 'tells' / mannerisms which suggest their vunerability= more in depth characterisation.
    • Gives context/background to the character= increase actor's confidence in playing role because know them better- more in depth characterisation.
    • Investigate more deeply the relationships within the play= impact things like use of space/eye contact/shared unspoken moments=more in depth characterisation.
  • What is one of the vocal and physical exercises?
    • Number lines exercises full range vocal/physical/states of tension. E.g 1-10 with 1 being a tiny whisper and 10 being shouting. This number line exercises can be used for volume; pace of movement and voice; pitch; levels; posture; pace space= allows actor to extend physical and vocal range of expression- which brings light and shade to scenes (wide range of contrasts). Important, also because very wide range of emotions in the play so need full range of expression to communicate these to the audience.
  • What is another one of the vocal and physical exercises?
    • Guess the emotion game: using only specific physical skills. Set of cards with emotions on- try to convey emotion only using facial expressions /posture/gesture/level/space=supports actors to polish their communication skills. So much is unsaid or not communicated to the play (partly because of them being teenagers/partly because they don't know how to respond in this situation)- so need physical 'tells'/mannerisms to communicate what is going on in their heads/feelings.
  • What are the last two vocal/physical techniques?
    • Breathing exercise: to support characters in long speeches/monologues.
    • Tongue twisters: to help actors get with clear enuciation.
  • What are the three types of style in the It?
    • Direct to camera/documentary style
    • Narration
    • Elements of realism but not realistic play.
