• The study uses a controlled observation of split-brain students to investigate behavioural symptoms resulting from hemisphere deconnection, a snapshot study.
• This is also a quasi experiment:

  • The researcher is manipulating the IV and the DV is the outcome.
• The Independent variable is presence or absence of split brain surgery.
• The dependent variable is the participant's performance on various visual and tactile tasks.
• The hypothesis:

  • That split-brain patients perform differently from individuals without a split brain
• This study can also be classified as a series of clinical case studies.
• Clinical case study meaning:

  • Very detailed investigations of an individual or small group of people.
  • Usually regarding an unusual phenomenon or biographical event of interest to a research field.
• What is a snapshot study:

  • A research study that is carried out in a very short period of time.
