  • Plot summary
    Isabella, who is an upper class girl, is in love with Lorenzo, their lower class servant. But her greedy brothers do not want them to be together as they want Isabella to marry for wealth. The brothers kill Lorenzo and tell Isabella he has gone away to work and she begins to suffer without him. One night, she sees his ghost and is told what really happened so Isabella and the nurse go to find Lorenzo's body. Isabella puts Lorenzo's head in a pot of basil and talks to it as if it were Lorenzo. The brothers are confused by this so search the pot and find the head, fleeing as they feel guilty and don't want to get caught. Now that the basil pot is gone Isabela becomes ill again and dies.
