Cards (8)

  • GOE: The Hero is the lone wolf who performs on his own to resolve a conflict.
  • GOE: Conflict - external threat that is expressed through violent action
  • GOE: Resolution - The lone wolf resolves the conflict on his own against the external threat.
  • GOE: Themes - The hero often comes from an outside threatened society, he takes on all the problems to save others, he is isolated and self-reliant and he may depart or die once the conflict is resolved. Order has been created and they are no longer needed.
  • Genres of order values individualism and personal sacrifice. This genre sees violence as justified in certain circumstances. This genre often takes place in a historically patriarchal society eg the American ‘Wild West’ which usually features a male hero - a person who is admired for their courage, strength, and ability to overcome difficulties.
  • Examples of Genre of Order in film texts include the Clint Eastwood westerns from the 1960’s and the Back To The Future Sci Fi series in the 1980’s when Marty Mcfly went back in time to the old west…
The legend of the cowboy/outlaw in the old Wild West is a story, idea or myth embedded in western popular culture.
  • There is an intertextual reference in Lil Nas X's Old Town Road video to Back To The Future Part 3 where Marty McFly has to resolve the conflicting nature of time travelling back to the Wild West - very similarly to how Lil Nas in the video does the same thing.
  • Lil Nas takes on the role of the Genre of Order Hero, who is trying to figure out how to return to the Wild West after being sent to the present day
