Anatomy of a wave

Cards (8)

  • Longitudinal waves are when the direction if the wave oscillations are parallel to the direction of the wave/energy transfer
  • Transverse waves are when the direction of the oscillations are perpendicular to the direction of the wave/ energy transfer
  • Amplitude is how high the wave is from the middle
  • Wavelength is the distance between two corresponding points on the wave and is measured in metres
  • Frequency is how many waves pass by every second and is measured in hertz (Hz)
  • Time period is the time for one full oscillation
  • A wavefront is the topmost point in a wave
  • Waves transfer energy and information without transferring matter
