  • Aqueous layer:
    • a layer of fluid that bathes the cilia
    • extends most of the way up the shaft of the cilia
    • offers very little resistance to ciliary movement / facilitates ciliary movement
  • Pulmonary Oedema:
    • too much fluid in the lungs adversely affects ciliary movement
  • Dehydration:
    • lack of fluid adversely affects ciliary movement due to there being too little of the aqueous layer
