Isotopes and Relative Atomic Mass

Cards (4)

  • Isotope: Atoms of the same element with different numbers of neutrons.
  • Relative Atomic Mass: average mass of all the isotopes of an element.
  • Relative abundance: how much there is of each isotope compared to the total amount of the element in the world.
  • Calculate relative atomic mass:
    1. Multiply the mass of each isotope by its relative abundance
    2. Add together
    3. Divide by the sum of the relative abundances
