  • Household Services -refers to the management of household affairs in a proper way thus, making a domestic house clean and maintain its high standards of cleanliness and maintenance at commercial levels.It is also known as “house cleaning” or “housekeeping” which includes overall cleaning of the house like window cleaning, putting furniture at the right place, doing dishes, maintaining lawns, taking out all the trash from the house and making repairs to household appliances and so forth.
  • Two types of house keeping- domestic and institutional housekeeping
  • Domestic housekeeping - refers to housekeeping maintenance in the house( kitchen, bedrooms, dinning, grounds, and areas surrounding the house
  • Institutional housekeeping - refers to housekeeping maintenance for establishments like hotels, resorts, apartment etc
  • Standard of housekeeping includes cleanliness, sanitation, or derliness safety, eye appeal, client's comfort, material control and preventive maintenance
  • The importance of housekeeping is not just keeping a family's house but also a hotel and other establishment a safe, clean, comfortable and inviting home.Thus, a through cleaned, well-maintained environment promotes a feeling of comfort and enjoyment and nobody worries about being exposed to unsanitary conditions.

  • Occupational Safety and Health(OSH) is a cross-disciplinary area concerned with protecting the safety, health and welfare of people engaged in work
  • The Occupational Safety and Health Center(OSHC) in the country is established by Executive order No.307.The implementing rules and regulations are issued by the Employees Compensation Commission(ECC)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Center(OSHC)covers the preventive (primary, secondary, tertiary prevention)aspects of occupational safety and health in every workplace, public or private.
  • The Center undertakes studies and research in all aspects of occupational safety and health it focuses and studies:
    1)To prevent and reduce occupational and work-related injuries and illnesses;
    2)To continuesly review and support the updating of the list of occupational illnesses as prescribe in PD 626, Employees Compensation and state Insurance Fund; and
    3)to aid standard setting and enforcement of OSH standards.
  • A hazard is a situation that poses a level of threat to life, health, property, or environment
  • Hazard are sometimes classified into three modes:
    Dormant -The situation has the potential to be hazardous, but no people, property or environment is currently affected by this.
    Armed -people, property, or environment are in potential harm's way.
    Active -A harmful incident involving the hazard has actually occured
  • Biological - a biological hazard is one originating from an organism that is foreign(in presence or concentration) to the organism being affected
  • Chemical -A chemical can be considered if by virtue of it's instrinsic properties can cause harm or danger to humans, property, or the environment
  • Mechanical - a mechanical hazard is any hazard involving a machine or process.Motor vehicles, aircraft, and air bags pose mechanical hazards
  • Physical - a physical hazard is a naturally occurring process that has potential to create loss or damage.
  • Ergonomic -It is a physical factor within the environment that harms the musculoskeletal system
  • Effect of Hazard in workplace
    1. Mechanical hazard-slips, falls and entanglement
    2. Chemical hazard - health risks involved any particular chemical
    3. Biological hazard -viruses, diseases and other forms of sickness
  • Hazard -any source of potential damage, harm or adverse health effects on something or someone under certain conditions at work
  • Risk - chance or probability that a person will be harmed or experience an adverse health effect if exposed to a hazard
  • Waste management -is the collection, transport, processing, recycling or disposal of waste materials
  • Waste- includes all items that people no longer have any use for, which they either intend to get rid of or have already discarded
