• 'although he was alive they treated him as if he no longer existed'
• 'only us children still chattered and laughed till gradually we too learnt to be silent'
• 'he must of wondered wich had been the better way to die
• 'he must of looked down at the little fishing boats strung out like bunting'
• the big idea- conflict between the head and heart and that the soldiers had been brainwashed by properganda
• big idea- power of nature to defeat darkness and war
• big idea- cultural expectations during the war
