  • Black death was from 1346-1350
  • Peasants left to go find better opportunities, after the black death
  • because of the black death, peasants were given more freedom to control their lives. This is how society started to fall apart
    • society before black death: Hierarchy was structured like this: Crown (figurehead), church, lords, knights, commoners. The commoners were the lowest class and were expected to work for the lords.
  • Society after black death: tons of people died, so there was a shortage of workers. This led to lords releasing their bonds to the peasants because they couldn't pay them enough. Peasants then fled to towns.
  • Economy after the black death: money came into use more and more. people were more dependant on time, because they wanted to know how many hours they worked for. This led to inflation and economy growing. Sumptuary laws were put in place to prevent the poor from wearing clothes that were too expensive.
  • Economy before the Black death: Churches were mainly in charge of money, they charged high tax and rent. They charged indulgences which were certificates you could buy to cover up your sins.
