Research- Banduras research

Cards (8)

  • Aim to see if children will imitate observed aggressive behavior
  • 36 boys and 36 girls from Stamford university schools from age 3-10. They were split into 3 conditions
    1. An aggressive model was shown to 24 children
    2. Non aggressive model was shown to 24 children
    3. No model shown to 24 children
Participants were put into a room one at a time observe the adults role
  • They observed aggressive behavior and they acted more aggressively when observed and the boys are more aggressive. Greater level of imitation if it is the same gender as the child.
  • Children did observe and directly imitate the behavior
  • Banduras research has a high level of control. This means that is would be easier for them to answer the aim of the procedure.
  • This helps us establish cause and effect. This research shows us that if one action happens another action will happen based on that result and these findings help with that as a clip meant the students were more aggressive.
  • One weakness is that is has low ecological validity. This mean that it is harder to translate the results into the real world because it is not a natural scenerio
  • As well as this, another weakness is that they had individual differences. The kids in the experiment could be more aggressive which is why they attacked the doll.
