  • Nose (nasus) - consists of external nose and the nasal cavity
  • External nose - the visible structure that forms a prominent feature of the face
  • Nasal cavity - the open chamber inside the nose where air enters the respiratory system
  • Nares (nostrils) - external openings of the nasal cavity
  • Choanae - the openings into the pharynx
  • Hard palate - the anterior portion of the roof of mouth; separates the oral cavity from the nasal cavity
  • Nasal septum - divides the nasal cavity into longitudinal sections
  • Conchae - bony ridges on each side of the nasal cavity helping air churn through the nasal cavity
  • Meatus - the tunnels beneath concha

    Superior and middle meatuses - openings from the various paranasal sinuses
    Inferior meatus -opening of a nasolacrimal duct
