Pleural cavity
- fluid-filled space that surrounds and protects each lung
Parietal pleura - covers the inner thoracic wall
Visceral pleura - covers the surface of the lung
Mediastinum
- separates the two pleural cavities and contains the heart, trachea, esophagus, thymus, and other structures
Boyle's Law
- the pressure of a gas is inversely proportional to its volume
Dalton's Law
- the partial pressure of a gas in a mixture of gases is the percentage of gas in the mixture
Henry's Law
- the concentration of a gas dissolved in a liquid is equal to the partial pressure of the gas times the solubility coefficient of the gas
