    • EEG measures electrical activity within the brain via electrodes usually in a skull cap
    • records brainwave patterns generated from thousands of neurones, showing overall brain activity
    • is used as a diagnostic tool
  • +EEGs contributes to our understanding of the stages of sleep
    +high temporal resolution ( 1 millisecond)
    Therefore EEGs have real word usefulness.
  • -EEGs produce generalised signal from thousands of neurones so it’s difficult to know the exact source of neural activity
    As a result, we can’t distinguish the activity of different but adjacent neurones.
