  • Neoclassicism began in the 18th century as a movement embracing the beauty and culture of classical antiquity which strongly opposed the Rococo style. Romanticism began in the late 18th century with a different artistic approach which embraces emotions and individualism.
  • It came from the Greek Word neos which means new and the Latin word classicus which means first class. It is known as a western movement in decorative and visual arts. The architecture, literature, theater, and music of this period are heavily influenced by Classical art and culture of Ancient Greece and Rome. It occured alongside the Age of Reason or Age of Enlightenment (the renaissance period)
