  • The first day

  • What is Moses known for?
    A prophet of Yahweh/Jesus. In the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament, Moses encounters Yahweh in a burning bush, which leads him to help the Israelites escape from slavery in Egypt. Moses then receives the Ten Commandments from Yahweh, which establish the basis for Jewish law.
  • What did Moses do?
    The Hebrew Bible/Christian Old Testament credits Moses with leading the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt, receiving the Ten Commandments from Yahweh, and taking the Israelites towards the "Promised Land."
  • Childhood of Moses
    - born to Israelite parents who were slaves, Amram and Jochebed.- His parents were Levite, a tribe later known as the tribe of the priesthood. - At the time of Moses' birth, Pharaoh was concerned the Israelites would overpower the Egyptians so he ordered all male infants to be drowned in the Nile River in order to avoid an uprising. - When Moses was born, his mother set him out onto the river to avoid being killed. The Pharaoh's daughter heard Moses crying so she had her maid draw him out and hired an Israelite woman, who was actually Moses' mother, to nurse him, but the Pharaoh's daughter raised him as her own son.

    Civilisation lead to enslavement becoming the norm because it gave people access to wealth and goods they wouldn't have had before so cities became targets for armies that wanted wealth and power.
