DNA replication

• 1. DNA helicase breaks hydrogen bonds between bases of two strands
• 2. double helix separates into two strands. both act as template strands
• 3. complementary free nucleotides are attracted to the exposed bases of template strands
• 4. once nucleotide in place there backbone is joined together by DNA polymerase
• 5. 2 new DNA strands produced containing half of new DNA and half of old DNA
• This type of replication is called semi conservative
