• cell cycle stages:

  1. growth
  2. DNA replication and mitosis
  3. division
• cell cycle:

  1. cell grows and increases the number of organelles it contains
  2. DNA is duplicated
  3. DNA spreads into long strands
  4. DNA condenses into chromosones
  5. duplicates each of the 46 chromosones
  6. all chromosones line up in the center of the cell
  7. cell membrane and cytoplasm pull apart forming 2 daughter cells
• mitosis produces gentetically identical cells
• mitosis takes place in animals and plants when cells are being:

  • grown
  • repaired
  • developed
• mitosis is used in sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction in multicelluar cells
• mitosis allows variation in offspring because of the mix of DNA in sexual reproduction
• all cells except gametes contain 46 chromosones each
• gamtes ( sex cells ) contain 23 chromosones each
