Krebs cycle

Cards (3)

  • Occurs in the matrix of the mitochondria
    • Acetyl-CoA combined with a 4-carbon molecule to produce a 6-carbon molecule
    • The 6 carbon-molecule turns into a 4-carbon molecule as a result of substrate-level phosphorylation
    • This can combine with a new molecule of acetyl-CoA to restart the cycle
  • For every molecule of pyruvate the Krebs cycle produces:
    • 2 molecules of CO2
    • 1 molecule of FAD
    • 1 molecule of NADH
    • 1 molecule of ATP
