Genetic Inheritance- Dias and Ressler (2013)

  To investigate if phobias can be passed on from parent to offspring through genes

• Procedure:

  Mice trained to fear acetophenone (cherries). They administered electric shocks when mice were exposed to the smell. Offspring were not taught to fear the smell. They observed the response of offspring to smell.
• Results:

  Despite not having been exposed to acetophenone offspring of mice trained to fear it reacted more dramatically that the control group. 3rd generation also inherited this reaction.
• Conclusion:

  Phobias can be the result of genetic inheritance
