• Conscientious Objectors were offered alternate work during WW2 e.g. farming

  Prison was used as a final resort rather than a deterrant
• The peace pledge union was a protest against the war and made anti-war posters. They were put on trial but dismissed
• Punishments for COs were seen as hypocritical due to the Nazis persecuting small minorities
• During WW2 some COs were still abused in public, some losing their jobs due to their employers being disaproving
• Conscription was reintroduced to Britain in 1939 for the second world war
